Apprentice of the Month – February 2026: Landon Wheeler

We’re thrilled to recognise Landon Wheeler as the Australian Industry Group Apprentice and Trainee Centre’s Apprentice of the Month for February 2026. Landon’s journey shows what can happen when determination meets opportunity.

When Landon needed a new host employer earlier this year, he made a brave decision that set him up for success. Moving from Whyalla in country South Australia to Adelaide—more than 400 kilometres away—he joined the Bianco Reinforcing maintenance team at their Gepps Cross site. At just 20, he took a huge step toward his future, securing local accommodation and settling quickly into a new city and workplace.

Since joining Bianco Reinforcing seven months ago, Landon has made the most of every learning opportunity. Working in a large, modern steel bar and mesh processing facility, he’s been able to build practical skills across hydraulics, pneumatics, machining, welding, thermal cutting, and fault finding. His supervisors consistently commend him for his attitude, his willingness to learn, and the positive, steady approach he brings to each day.

How the GTO Model Supports Apprentices Like Landon

Landon’s growth also highlights the important role of the Group Training Organisation (GTO) model. Through the Ai Group Apprentice and Trainee Centre, apprentices receive wraparound support from day one—help with finding the right host employer, regular check ins from experienced field officers, and ongoing guidance throughout their training. This model ensures that apprentices stay employed and supported even when circumstances change, allowing them to keep moving forward in their trade. It also gives host businesses confidence that they’re working with motivated, well backed apprentices who are ready to contribute and learn. Landon’s journey is a great example of how this support network can make a real difference.

What stands out most is Landon’s eagerness to grow. He’s embraced the chance to work alongside experienced tradespeople, asked smart questions, and taken each new challenge in stride. The supportive environment at Bianco Reinforcing has helped him develop confidence in his trade while giving him exposure to real world engineering work that many apprentices his age rarely see.

If he continues on this path, Landon is well on his way to becoming an exceptional Mechanical Engineering Tradesperson—skilled, adaptable, and ready for whatever comes next. Congratulations Landon!

Congratulations, Landon, on this fantastic achievement. And thank you to Bianco Reinforcing for providing such a positive and encouraging space for emerging talent to thrive.
