Building a skilled workforce from office to workshop

Behind every successful business is a strong administrative team. From managing schedules and compliance to supporting frontline teams, good administration keeps everything running smoothly.

A traineeship is a practical way for businesses to build this capability from within; and recent success stories like Evelyn’s show the long‑term value it can deliver.

Case study: From trainee to valued team member

Evelyn commenced a Business Administration traineeship with the Country Fire Authority (CFA) in Wendouree Victoria in September 2024. During her traineeship, she successfully completed a Certificate III in Business Administration and went on to commence a Certificate IV in Business, which she will complete in the coming months.

Throughout her traineeship, Evelyn developed strong workplace skills, confidence and professionalism, qualities that quickly made her an asset to the team. Following her completion, Evelyn has now accepted an ongoing role with the CFA, transitioning into full‑time employment within the organisation.

Frances Constable, Employment & Training Area Manager for Central Victoria, said Evelyn is a great example of what a traineeship can achieve.

“Evelyn is a fantastic trainee who has truly flourished in her role. Each time I visit, I see a young person who is thriving. Her maturity, confidence and professionalism continues to grow.”

For Evelyn, the experience has been both positive and rewarding.

“I’m proud to be part of a workplace where everyone works hard. It’s a positive environment where I feel valued and encouraged to grow.” By the end of her traineeship, Evelyn had gained two nationally recognised qualifications, strengthening the CFA’s administrative capability while creating a committed, job‑ready staff member who already understands the organisation and its systems.

Supporting businesses across all industries

Evelyn’s story isn’t unique. Business Administration traineeships are proving valuable across a wide range of industries; including traditionally blue‑collar and project‑based environments.

Another of our trainees, Jordin completed a Certificate III in Business in January 2026 while hosted with Acciona on the North East Link project in Victoria. As a school‑based trainee, Jordin worked with Acciona two days per week for around 18 months. After completing his qualification, he successfully transitioned into full‑time employment with the business.

Jordin credits the ATC for the guidance and support provided throughout his traineeship, noting that the structure, mentoring and ongoing assistance made it possible for him to complete while balancing work and study.

A smarter way to build administrative capability

For host businesses, traineeships offer a low‑risk, high‑value way to:

  • Build a reliable pipeline of administrative staff
  • Develop employees who are trained to suit your systems and workplace
  • Reduce recruitment risk by growing talent internally
  • Receive support with training and employment administration

Just like how we manage apprenticeships in traditional trade roles, The ATC manages recruitment, training coordination and employment, allowing businesses to focus on day‑to‑day operations while their trainee builds valuable skills on the job.

If you’re already hosting apprentices in trade or technical roles, a Business Administration trainee could be the missing link that strengthens your whole operation.
